Treadmill is Fixed. Now I Have to Use It, Right?

Our treadmill has been in storage for the past 9 months (we moved, the house hunting process took some time). We got it all setup a few days ago & I hopped on today & started Couch to 5k, which I did a few years back and attempted to do last year.

Week 1, Day 1 was not hard at all, which makes me feel good. I guess I'm not as out of shape as I thought I was.  Nice. I did 5 extra minutes of cooldown at the end.

30 minutes = 293 calories

Do you want to change something? Then change some THING.

Soooo I am back up to 174. But I was 176.5 earlier this week so I will take that. We had a long weekend last week in Chicago which included:
  • Chicago deep dish pizza - think: globs and globs of cheese
  • Chicago style hot dogs
  • Cheese fries
  • WINE, BEER, StrawBEERitas, wine, and more wine.
  • Eating out for every meal
  • Binge drinking at the wedding reception & at the bar afterwards
So I can't say I'm surprised I gained weight & a few of those pounds are sticking around. I hadn't been weighing myself lately - which is what I do when I know I'm gaining weight & I'm in denial. I stepped on the scale before the trip & weighed 173.5 so...at least I'm closer to that now than I was.

I've cut out alcohol during the week and exercised 3 times.
  • Tuesday: Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred - Level 1 & 20 minute family walk around the neighborhood
  • Friday: Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred - Level 1 & 2
  • Tracy Anderson 60 minute mat routine
So I met my goal of working out 3x this week & will try to continue on with that. I hope to lose 2 more lbs by next week.

Fingers crossed & hard work in progress.

The other night before I went to bed, something popped into my head. I was thinking about how I want to lose 20 lbs by my friend's wedding June 1 (um, not going to happen but whatever) and I thought I just need to change something. Then I thought, "Do you want something to change?" (yes) "then change some THING". So I've kind of made that my mantra this week.

I want to change one thing a day that I normally wouldn't do. This week that includes:
  • Trading diet soda for water - I haven't had a soda all week & I'm not craving it like I was. I was up to 3-4 diet sodas a day, I craved the carbonation & soda bubbles in my mouth. I replaced it with filtered water and sparkling water with a lime.
  • Skip the wine & drink sparkling water in a wine glass - I really enjoy this for some reason
  • Instead of laying on the couch after work watching Bravo, I went & ran errands or went for a walk with the family
  • Worked out instead of just thinking about working out
  • Tracked everything I ate/drank in My Fitness Pal
So those are the little changes I've made this week. One step at a time...

168.8

Current weight: 168.8

Less eating junk, less drinking delicious wine. Seems to be working. Now I just need to get back into my workout routine. I haven't been to the gym in 2 years. I know this because it's 2 years to the day that I got pregnant with my sweet baby girl.

One step at a time....

Making Progress

Well non-existent blog readers, this was a good week for me!! I stuck to healthy food choices, no empty calories (wine!) and exercised 3 times in the past 5 days. It felt really good.

Weight this morning (after breakfast): 180.2

I will take that. It's so surreal to me that I am "okay" with that weight. If you had asked me 34 lbs ago if I would ever let myself get above 144 lbs, I would say NEVER. I would be disgusted by myself. But alas, it happened and here I am. But I feel good about the progress I've made & I actually feel pretty damn motivated.

My husband is also dieting, he's put on a good 5-10 lbs this summer that he wants to lose. He will probably fart and blink his eyes & the weight will be gone. It's not fair.

We both have personal goals to lose X amount of pounds by babygirl's 1st birthday in early November. My goal is 12-15 lbs. I think I can do that. I hope I can. I'm down 3-ish already.

I am doing Couch Potato to 5k. I did Week 1, Day 1 & Week 1, Day 2 on the treadmill. I attempted to do Week 1, Day 3 outside while pushing the baby in her stroller (which just so happens to be a jogging stroller which I have never jogged with) and it was really HARD. I learned that I need to take baby steps & will do Day 3 over tomorrow on the treadmill. It was also effing hot outside so I don't know what I was thinking. Oh well, at least I tried! One day I will be able to.

Off to a dinner cruise for my husband's work. We're each going to have a glass or two of wine over the 3 hour cruise & make today a "cheat day". Here's hoping that actually goes as planned!

Until next time...

Day 2

I didn't get a chance to weigh myself this morning. Well I guess I could have made time but baby girl was a little cranky so I grabbed her & headed downstairs to change her diaper, feed her & sign-on to my computer for work. I'm not sure that weighing every day is a great idea but it's always helped me stay on track in the past.

Breakfast:
1/2 Van's waffle with 1 tbsp of peanut butter - 70 calories waffle - 100 calories peanut butter
4-5 bites of baby girl's leftover Ego waffle - 50 calories?

Lunch:
Arnold's Honey Wheat sandwich thin - 100 calories
Boca Burger - 90 calories
1 slice of American cheese - 40 calories
1 tbsp light mayo - 40 calories
ketchup - 5 calories
20 Lay's light chips - 75 calories

Snack:
40 Lay's light chips - 150 calories
3-4 tbsp of queso (40 calories a serving) - 120 calories
1 Snackwell's devils food cookie - 50 calories

Dinner:
Baked chicken breast  - 140 calories
Green beans - 30-50 calories?

Not the best snacks but Aunt Flo came today so it could have been a lot worse!!

Exercise:
Week 1, Day 2 of Couch Potato to 5k

Motivation...please find me.

How did I get here?

Oh....my gosh you guys. It's official - I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life - with the exception of when I was pregnant.

182.6 lbs to be exact.

That may not sound bad if I were 5'10 but I am barely 5'3 (more like 5'2 but I round up). Let's review the cold hard facts.

1. Last year at this time I was pregnant and I weighed in at about 179-187lbs (in the final month). That means I am about 5 lbs lighter than I was when I was carrying another human in my belly.

2. I live in pretty much all black (it's sophisticated, right?), stretchy dresses, leggings, yoga pants, and since it's Fall - tights/Spanxx/slimming body suits to try to hide the lady lumps that have not gone away since I gave birth in November of 2011. I make sure to always keep my make-up looking good, pile on the David Yurman and Tory Burch flats and try to make my "bling" distract from my huge boobs, big ass & lumpy belly.

3. My face is full, my arms are fat, my stomach is saggy where I had my c-section, my legs are flabby but they may be the only thing that I don't dislike looking at in the mirror, I've never had firm/muscular legs.

4. There are barely any pictures of me & my daughter that were not taken on my iPhone, from a flattering angle & cropped within an inch of itself. That makes me sad.

5. I've had this blog since 2006. It started as a Weight Watchers blog, I had some followers and met some great ladies. I was so desperately trying to get down to 130 lbs (from 144) - if I could go back & appreciate that 144 lb body, I would in a heartbeat. I just want to be back in that place.

6. I am sick of wearing things to hide my body. I am sick of wearing dresses and tunics that I wore when I was PREGNANT. I am sick of pinning things on Pinterest that I know I could never squeeze my fat ass into. I am TIRED of being this weight.

7. I have not exercised in over 2 years. I used to exercise several times a week. The guilt has gone away & I am just now a person who does not exercise.

8. Enough is ENOUGH.

Weight Fluctuations

1. When I started this blog in 2006, I weighed 144 lbs. This was my high weight - with the exception of a semester in college where I got up to 163 but immediately cut out carbs and lost it.

2. With exercising 3-5x a week I got down to around 134-39 for a few years

3. I met my now husband & my weight started to fluctuate between 135-140.

4. My all-time low (as an adult) was 132. At that point I was running - which I forced myself to do & actually really dislike - and doing Weight Watchers (no meetings though). And honestly, I would eat an entire bowl of brocoli for dinner some nights with spray butter all over it. It stunk up my house but kept me full and not put on weight.

5. I got engaged & got back into eating things I knew I shouldn't. I got up to 152.

6. I went on the Special K diet (aka starvation) and was down to 142 for my wedding day.

7. Weight slowly crept up to 162 which is what I weighed in February 2011 when I got pregnant.

8. My highest weight being pregnant was 187

9. I lost 23 lbs after giving birth - 164lbs at the end of November 2011.

10. I gained back about 23 lbs -  187 was my high in August

11. I have lost and kept off 5 lbs.

12. Current weight: 182.6

Plan
1. Count calories
2. Exercise
3. Cut out the alcohol

Wine
1. I definitely love me some wine. It's a nice way to unwind after a long day. It takes the edge off. It's fun to drink while watching reality tv. But it's empty calories and at this point I do not need any unnecessary, extra calories in my diet.
2. No more wine, no more beer, no more alcohol for a while!!

I really hope this little old blog can keep me accountable like it used to. Stayed tuned for a seperate post on what I've eaten today...

   Wish me luck...I need it.

8 lbs Down!

So I have cut back on my calorie intake over the past 6 weeks and dropped 8 lbs. I know it could have been more but hey - I will take it. I didn't do any exercise except for going on walks but my Mommy belly has definitely flattened out a bit & I am not as self conscious about my tummy so I consider that a win.

One day at a time. I'm back in the office Monday & Friday now. My coworker & I are going to go to the gym on those days. Hopefully that will motivate me to get on my treadmill here at home and get in an additional workout or two a week.

2011 in A Nut Shell

So...since we last spoke I:

- Turned 28! My wonderful husband got me a treadmill for my birthday.
- Joined Weight Watchers!
- Then I got pregnant! And haven't used the treadmill since & of course the Weight Watchers stopped.
- Had terrible morning/all-day sickness & lost about 6 lbs at the beginning of my pregnancy.
- Stopped exercising except for walks with the dog & husband
- Got my appetite back but only gained a few pounds a month.
- Then I had a sweet baby girl! :)
- Gained 25 lbs of pregnancy weight
- Lost 23 lbs of pregnancy weight
- Gained 5 lbs of Holiday weight

SOOO....As of now I am 15 lbs heavier than when I last blogged on here. And that would put me at about 30 lbs heavier than I would like to be.

Maternity leave ends Feb. 1. I'm very sad but I know the structure will help me out in the dieting/exercising arena.

My plan: counting calories (Weight Watchers kind of....not sure I want to sign up for it again) & walking 30 minutes on the treadmill. I haven't started any of this yet but it's good to have a plan right?

Week 1 Goals Accomplished!

So last week my goal was to lose 2 lbs & get to the gym 2 or 3 times. I accomplished both goals, so I'm proud of myself. After all the junk I ate yesterday, I'm proud that I didn't gain 5 lbs between Sunday & Monday :)

Weight: 153.0
Breakfast/Lunch: 1 cup of Fiber One raisin bran & 1/2 cup of skim (2), coffee with skim & splenda (0)
Total: 2 out of 21

I won't be getting to the gym today - I didn't go into work because I had a stomach ache this morning. I feel better now - not very hungry - I'm guessing my stomach is still full of greasy Chinese & Mexican food. BARF.

Will update my menu as the day progresses...

Sunday Funday

So yesterday I didn't post my food menu but it wasn't very WW friendly. Yesterday was our 5 year anniversary from when we first started dating. So we hit up our favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch. I used the 28 or so flex points I had, on top of my 21 points for the day, and basically went to town on the following: tortilla chips, queso dip, 2 Bud Lights, Taco Salad (minus the shell) & Mexican rice. It was delicious but probably 25-30 points in itself. I don't even know how to count up those points so we'll estimate it was about 30?

We then spent ALL day building the new living room furniture set we purchased. It looks awesome but it was a long day. Thankfully I did not snack but I did have 2 glasses of Champagne that D bought for me, along with roses for our anniversary. Awww :)

Dinner was not so good - Chinese food. This was D's idea...I had a blast eating it but I knew I shouldn't be. It was so wrong but it felt so right. LOL. I ordered Orange flavored Shrimp & D had Kung Pao chicken. I ate my shrimp with a spring roll, lots of white rice & 2 Crab Ragoons. I want to say that was probably 40, 50, 60 points, who knows?? I also washed it down with 2.5 glasses of red wine. So basically yesterday was a free for all.

Sunday's weight: 152.2

Today starts a new day & I will post my menu so far separately.

booooo

So last night, D & I relaxed on the couch, caught up on some tivo & drank wine. I indulged in 3 glasses of wine and then cut myself off. I dipped into about 5 flex points, which I don't normally use during the week. And what do I get? I woke up with a terrible headache & weigh-in of 154.0. YUCK. I don't know if that has anything to do with the wine or maybe I'm retaining water, who knows. I'm not going to let it frustrate me because I know I shouldn't weigh myself every day but it's a bummer.

Anyway, onward & upward! D and I have a ton of errands to run today. I'm hosting a bridal shower for D's sister at my house next weekend. My Dad comes this week to help us install some new light fixtures & other things so we need to go to Home Depot, Lowes to get everything ready.

Weight: 154.0 :(
Breakfast: 2 cups of Fiber One raisin bran & 1 cup of skim (4), Venti iced coffee with skim & splenda from Starbucks (1)
Lunch: Chic-Fil-a chargrilled chicken salad (3.5), FF honey mustard dressing (2), 2 french fries (1?)
Dinner: Fat free refried beans (1), cheese sauce (1), fat free sour cream (1), 2 glasses of Pinot Noir (5)
Total: 19.5 out of 21

Fabulous Friday!

Today has been an extremely long day at work...I'm tired & the last thing I want to do is stare at this screen but I want to track what I've eaten.

Weight: 153
Breakfast: WW bagel (2), WW cream cheese (1.5)
Lunch: Arnolds sandwich thin (1), turkey (1), American cheese (.5), light mayo (.5)
Snacks: 100 calorie cupcake pack (1), 1/2 Special K chocolatey pretzel bar (1), 1 cup of light peaches (1), cool whip (.5), 20 Light Lays Chips (1), bowl of Fiber One Raisin Bran with 1/2 cup skim (2)
Exercise: 60 minute spin class (-3 or -4?)
Dinner: Smart Ones Fettucine Alfredo (4), Glass of Pinot Noir (2)
Desert: 1 piece of sugar free angel food cake (1), FF cool whip (1), 2 more glasses of Pinot Noir (5)
Point total so far: 23

Flex Points left: 31 out of 35

Sidenote: I bought two boxes of Fiber one cereal & the points (including skim milk) are crazy good! One cup of wannabe Cinnamon Toast Crunch + skim milk = 3 points. One cup of wannabe Raisin Bran + skim milk = 2 points. So far I've only tried the raisin bran but I was happily surprised by the amount of food & the taste! Yum!!

I hope everyone has a great Friday, I will try to post this weekend.

400th Post

It's hard to believe that I've been blogging on & off since 2006. It's harder to believe that I've written 400 blog posts - all about my struggles & successes losing weight. You would think by post 400 that I would have it all figured out. But I don't & I'm still learning things about myself. I'm learning that I can really push myself when I am motivated. I'm also learning that I can really talk myself out of exercise or into eating/drinking something bad if I really want to. That's one thing I'm working on - my inner voice.

Today has been great in terms of diet & exercise. I got to the gym for a 45 minute spin/strength class. We cycled for 35 minutes & did arms & abs for 10 minutes. It was tough. I have been off the spin bike since July & that is surprisingly long enough to become out of shape. I held my own though & tried to look like my lungs weren't about to explode out of my chest. It was a great workout & my coworker wants to go to the 60 minute spin class tomorrow. I can do this.

Weight: 152.2 (yay! The scale really moved!)
Breakfast: Quaker Oats Lower Sugar Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal (2), large iced coffee with skim & splenda from Dunkin Donuts (1)
Snack: Special K chocolatey pretzel bar (2)
Lunch: Fat free spicy refried beans (2), cheese sauce (1) & fat free sour cream (1) - sounds gross but to me it's like a tortilla-free bean burrito
Snack: 1/2 WW bagel (1) & 1 tbsp of WW cream cheese
Dinner: Smart Ones Fettucine Alfredo (4)
Desert: Weight Watchers chocolate chip ice cream cup (2), Sugar Free Angel food cake (2), Fat free cool whip (2)
Exercise: 45 minute spin & sculpt class (-2?)
Total: 19 out of 21

Hump Day!

Today is day 3 of Weight Watchers & so far, so good! So far I'm down 1 lb but I will take it. My goal is to lose 2 lbs a week & if I can lose another lb by Monday I will be a happy camper. Baby steps.

I made it to the gym, which I'm really proud of. I met the goal I set Monday of getting to the gym at least 2-3 times a week. Yay! I'm going to a strength & spin class tomorrow morning with my coworker. Work was crazy but I managed to get away for about 45 minutes. I'm lucky to have a free gym at work, which I need to take advantage of more. They offer spin class, step class, Zumba, all sorts of fun classes that the offer all day long.

Weight: 154.4
Breakfast: Egg white omelet with veggies & 1 slice of American cheese (4), iced coffee with a splash of skim & splenda (0) - omelette was made with no butter, the cook uses Pam...I'm also very lucky to have a really affordable cafeteria at work as well that makes healthy, yummy food!
Lunch: I was in and out of meetings all day & didn't get a chance to eat before my 3pm gym "meeting"...that's bad, I know. I was starving & never made it back to my desk to grab a healthy snack.
After Work Snack: Arnolds sandwich thin (1), slice of Turkey (.5), slice of American cheese (1), 1tbs of light mayo (.5)
Dinner: Turkey taco salad: lettuce (0), 97/3 turkey meat (4), cheese sauce (2), light sour cream (1) - we didn't have any other toppings but it tasted great!
Desert: 100 calorie Hostess chocolate cupcakes (1)
Exercise: 30 minutes on the elliptical - burned 275 calories (-2)
Total: 13 out of 21

I did a lot of organizing & cleaning after work as well. All in all a productive day but I should have eaten more...lesson learned!

Snoozeday!

Happy Tuesday! Or Snoozeday as I like to call it. So last night's menu did include wine but in my defense, I had points left over & used 2.5 flex points. It's not the end of the world & I wasn't going to let delicious vino go to waste! I have one glass of Pinot Grigio left in the house, may or may not drink that or may save it for the weekend. We're going out of town this weekend for a wedding. I'm going to try to stay on-point as much as possible but will try to save my flex points just in case. Anyway, on to today's progress report...

Weight: 154.8 (did I mention I'm on my period? That counts, right?)
Breakfast: Quaker Oats Lower Sugar Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal (2), Oikos Plain FF Greek Yogurt (2), Coffee with splenda & a dash of skim milk (0)
Lunch: Michelina's Lean Gourtmet Lasagna (5)
Snack: Special K Chocolatey Pretzel bar (2) - sidenote: these are amazing, sooo good for 2 points - salty & sweet
Workout: 40 mins on the elliptical (burned 390 calories) (-3?)
After work snack: handful or 2 of popcorn (1), boca burger (1), Arnold's sandwich thin (1), 1 slice of American cheese & light mayo/ketchup (1), 2 cupcakes from 100 calorie pack (.5), 1/2 glass of Pinot Grigio (1)
Dinner: Lean Cuisine Fettucine Alfredo (4)
Desert: Smart Ones Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Sundae (3) & Defcap hot tea
Total: 20.5 points out of 21

Starting Over...Again

Ok - let's get real. I've gained a solid 15 pounds over the past year & a half. This is crazy to me, considering I'm only 5'2 & that is a lot of weight for my frame. Oddly enough, I can still fit in most of my clothes. Then again, most of my clothes are stretchy dresses & outfits that incorporate leggings in some way or another. I even own a pair of jeggings. Jeggings are jean leggings. And I wear them often. With all of the stretch & material in my clothing, I have comfortably & knowingly put on these pounds.

So starting today (and I know I've said this before), I'm on weight watchers & I'm going to be honest with myself about what I'm actually consuming. No more handfuls of chips, bites of ice cream, or bites of whatever delicious food my husband is eating. I need to get back on track before it gets too far. Before I am resorting to filling out an application for The Biggest Loser because it's gotten too out of hand. And also, because my husband & I are trying to have a baby. When that happens (lord willing), I do not want to be overweight.

Goal: drop 20 lbs by Chrismas
Plan: Weight Watchers, exercise (3-4 times a week - at least 30 minutes of cardio with strength training at least 2x/week)& less alcohol

Alcohol
Now this may be my Achille's heel. I actually don't think I eat a lot of food, I'm not a binge eater by any means. At the end of the day, I don't dive into a gallon of ice cream, I'd rather have a glass or 2 of wine. But one or two can lead to three & this can be 200-500 extra calories a day. Slowly adding up to the weight I am now.

So how much do I weigh? 155.4 lbs according to my scale this morning. I must say, I think that is from some of the junk I ate over the weekend and I wouldn't be surprised if the scale is down 2-3 lbs tomorrow. I have been averaging at about 149-151 lbs for the past 9 months.

So here is my food journal for the day...I will keep updating as the day goes on or tonight when I get home from work. I really want to be accountable so any bite, lick, taste or sip I take, I will record it here. Even if I reaaaally don't want to.

9.27.10
Weight: 155.4
Breakfast: Special K with skim milk (4), iced coffee with splenda & a splash of skim milk (0)
Lunch: Lean Cuisine Cheese Raviolis (4)
Mid afternoon Snack: Special K Chocolaty Pretzel bar (2)
After work snack: Cup of cauliflower & cheese (0), Sugar-Free Jello (0), Smart Pop Popcorn (3), 1 100-calorie cupcake out of 3 pack (.5)
Dinner: Turkey burger (4.5), Arnolds flat bread (1), low fat mayo & ketchup (1), 1 slice of American cheese (1)
Workout: 35 Minutes Elliptical (burned 368 calories) (-3)
Wine: 1.5 glasses of Pinot Noir (3.5), 1 glass of Pinot Grigio (2)
Total: 23

Which means I used 2 flex points...considering I get 21 points a day. Not that bad but could have done without the wine. However, it's Monday & after a long day, I think that's not "thattttt bad". :)

Wish me luck, I'm going to need it!
